A Brief History of Eleazer United Methodist Church
(Submitted By Russell Curtis)
In 1830 Elijah Hartsock moved to Greene County, and in
1834 bought land in Casesarcreek Township and built his home. Not long
after, he gave a plot of land for a church and graveyard. That land is now
at the comer of Eleazer and Spring Valley-Paintersville Roads. Elijah led
in the work of erecting the church, and most of the lumber used in the
original part of the sanctuary and Sunday School rooms was contributed by
him.
