Summary of Lumberton UMC History (Source - A Lumberton UMC Brochure)

The church was originally organized as The Lumberton Methodist Episcopal Church in 1840 and for two years, met in a wagon shop. Joshua James donated a lot in 1842 where the first church was constructed.
