The following history was authored by
Pastor Rex Robinson
The congregation that became the Port William Methodist
Protestant Church started meeting in 1829, when the newly organized
church built a log meeting house north of town. Another building was
erected in 1843 that was severely damaged in a windstorm in 1891. On
November 3, 1891 the corner stone for another building was laid. This
building now serves as the main structure for the Port William United
Methodist Church. In 1948 a "church school" was added to the main
building. This added several classrooms, a fellowship hall, a kitchen and
restrooms. One of these classrooms now serves as the church office.
Presently the church owns the building across Main Street and the
parsonage a block away on Walnut Street.
