Wednesday Night Food Court

Each Wednesday evening at 5:00 P.M. (September through May) the Common Cup Churches offer an evening meal for a donation of $6.00.  The food court is open to anyone in the area.

The Food Court is held in the community room of Faith Community UMC.  For a floor plan showing the location the Food Court Click Here.  Also, Room numbers for the Growth Group events are located on the floor plan.

Between 180 and 220 meals are prepared and served by 55 volunteers each week.

The Food Court Coordinator, and two Assistants spend about 30 hours per week collectively buying supplies, meal planning, and scheduling volunteers.

The goal of this project is to offer a wholesome meal as a Christian outreach to the community.  If any proceeds remain after paying for food and supplies it is used for kitchen replacements such as aprons, spoons, pans, etc.  Then after these expenses if any money is accrued over time the Common Cup Council determines how it might be used to the benefit of the Common Cup Churches (an example of this is the framed picture of each individual member church presented a few years ago.)

Here are the types of help we need:

  • Cooks- We need 3 cooks each week. (2 pm or earlier - 6:30). These people work on the main dishes, vegetables, and bread.

  • Cook’s Helper- We need 2. (1 from 3-5 and 1 from 4-6).

  • Preparation – These people make salads and cut the desserts. We need 5 people each week. 3- 5 pm- 2 hours.

  • Servers- We need 12 servers each week. (4:30 – 6:30 pm) We have several people that like this job. Last year we had almost 50 people signed up. We are considering an A team and a B team. We would also appreciate it if 3 or 4 of the servers could help clean up the kitchen and dry silverware on certain nights. (4:30-7:30pm)

  • Desserts- What would we do without these volunteers? Every week we need 14 people each to bring dessert for 15 people. That adds up to 210 desserts. That’s usually enough.

  • Dish Washers- We need 5 total each week. (2 from 3:30-5:30 and 3 from 5:30 to 7:30)
We have been wearing a couple of guys out on this job. We really need help here.

  • Clean-Up Crew – We need a total of 5 in the kitchen each night to decide what to do with leftovers, clean counters, appliances, coffee makers, and put things away properly. We would love to have two teams at this task also.

  • Community Room Workers – We need about 8 people to help our guests carry trays, to clean and scrape plates, rinse silverware, carry dishes and silverware to the dishwasher, wipe tables, and tear down. (5-7pm). We would like to have a couple of shifts so the same people do not need to do it every night.

If you would be interested in volunteering to work at the Food Court or donate supplies for it.  Please complete the form below and the Coordinator will contact you.

The common cup has long been a symbol of our unity and our willingness to accept each other for fellowship and support in the local church. ("The Eucharistic Way" , John Baycroft)
